Reflection on research
My research was less about learning what to add to my project and more about learning about securities and what is allowed to be advertised. Although at first, it seems like some of my research doesn’t fit in the renovating of a website, I think it was very informative and keeps me within the law. It’s hard reading through official documents about regulations and securities but it is incredibly valuable information. However, it was challenging going through the research.
Securities are a little confusing especially when you’ve never invested, or never been involved with any stock market. There are many levels of investment and a lot of times they are based on a product or entity that is fixed. In the natural gas world, prices fluctuate, so it can seem confusing and every day the price can change.
Natural Gas also comes in many shapes and sizes. There is the type of natural gas straight from the ground, Natural Gas that is converted into LNG (liquid natural gas), pipelines (transportation of gas) and more. Learning about these main types of natural gas helped me get a better understanding of what the company does and in general what the industry is about. So even if this information will not be word for word featured on the new and improved website, it helps me grasp the concept of what is allowed and what is not. It’s a little confusing when you’ve never learned about it before.
To be honest, because there are major rules regarding the Securities Exchange Commission about not being able to advertise to investors, I’m concerned with what and how to add information that doesn’t violate any rules. I don’t want to create more problems while trying to create solutions. I think it will be important to add a blog or a tab with constant updates but I do not want it to be open to everyone so this will be a hard task to solve. I want to provide information to people who are interested and show the progress we have without giving away our secret recipes to the competition. This will be a hard task to overcome.
Lastly, my final source really provided a lot of insight for me. I am now not only focused on the website, but on our online presence. This isn’t just about the website. Yes, the website needs to be updated and look more modern and professional, but we need to step up our online presence. Even though the 5th source is a marketing source for their own services, it provided me with the realization that just updating the website isn’t enough, especially when working with commodities with so many rules and regulations on advertisements. I really think this is the most valuable of my research. Along with presenting the new web design idea, I think I will also be presenting a new online presence.
